Study Abroad Scholarship for Students with a Pell Grant

Information from Study Abroad about the Gilman International Scholarship:

Dear Advisors,

We wanted to let you know about a scholarship opportunity for U.S. citizens who receive a Pell Grant and are studying abroad. ┬áThe Gilman International Scholarship, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State, offers up to $5,000 for a semester or $3,000 in the summer, with potential for additional funds for studying a ‘critical language.’

The Gilman Scholarship program encourages, but does not require, students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations. The program aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to students with high financial need, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. About one in three UO students who apply receive an award, so this is a great opportunity for funding.

We highly encourage you to let students know about this scholarship if you know that they receive a Pell Grant.  The application deadlines come early (the deadline for winter/ spring awards is coming up on Oct. 2), so please feel free to refer students to our office.
